Artist's Comments

A while back I entered that big Amazon.com cartooning contest for funsies. I didn't want to give them any of the characters I already had, as they wanted to own them outright, so I just made up some new ones off the top of my head. Yeah, I'm like that.

I made their cut of the top 250 out of 5000, but did not survive the pairing down to the top 50. Ah well. It was a pretty weird series of strips, and I had literally no clue where I was going next. (still, that was part of the fun!)

New thought, I was a character IN this comic, if they owned the characters would they have owned me? Or at least my likeness? Oh I so want action figures made of me at some point...

Dude, Amazon.com owns your soul now...
Ah well, we all make those small mistakes.

Pretty cool and an unusual strip.
It all worked really good together as a one-page:er.

Hmm, you'd have to read the agreement closely. Most of the time you just agree that Amazon can use the works without permission for any reason, commercial or not.

It's unusual to have to either to concept or copyright assignment for competitions. And if I was ever asked to do so, I'd laugh all the way to creative-commons.org, print out the full sized legalease of CC 3.0 and smack them upside the head with it's copylefting awesomeness.

But make sure you didn't copyright assign, otherwise your posting here might be against da law (technically)

You should never sell yourself, cartoon-version or otherwise, to Amazon. If you order yourself, you'll be waiting for you to arrive at your front door for way longer that you anticipated. Plus, those Amazon boxes are none too roomy...

Excellent fly-off-the-cuff comic, sir! I particularly got a kick out of the "Feeling Cross-Hatchy" panel. <333

Great work!
Very random strips, I love them.
And I love the dinosaur... and love more the pirate dinosaur.

Sweet, maybe... Passionate, I suppose... But don't ever mistake thar for nice [The Doctor]
:iconraisegrate:
I didn't explain myself fully: if you WON the contest, andrews mcmeel, the syndicate sponsoring it would want to own the strip outright, they had a dense wad of legalese. I had all my friend and family pushing me to enter, and I didn't want to see anything happen to my beloved pirate penguin, and so I created these new guys, who I didn't care what happened to them, just to help get me out there more.

Since I am now no longer in the top 50, they don't want anything to do with me and I am free.
